Hi Pete;
If you are reading this, we finally found a way
to get you these puds. We'll probably have to find
another way soon though, because Pudland hasn't been
putting up any of my puds lately, and haven't been
returning my Email either. I don't know if this is
because they are busy, or if they are mad at me. (Hey,
just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean everyone isn't
out to get me. Just kidding.) Now for a not so brief
rundown. All of them use the same unt file, which
means they will behave the same way. The Critters can
be used to blow things up, but are really slow. The
best way to deal with this is haste. The critters are
all rescue passive, so its first come first serve among
the human players. The undead throw touch of death,
and don't decay, so they'll last until you get 'em
killed, again. (Ha ha) I raised their hit points to
60, so they're tougher, but not game buster units by
any means. The heroes are all tougher in one way or
another. Some have more hit points, some have more
attack strength, or a weapon which causes a lot of
damage. For instance, Alleria has 700 hit points, and
shoots bolts of lightning, and Danath has 200 hit
points, and throws Gryphon Hammers. I went through a
process of dueling them off in pairs to make sure that
they were evenly matched against each other, but each
still has his (or her) strengths and weaknessess. I
couldn't avoid that, some are faster than others, and
some cast spells, but I tried to give each player a
pair of heroes with different strengths to even things
out as much as I could. The Daemons have 666 hit
points of course, so be careful about getting them
stirred up. The Peasants can throw their axes, even at
flying objects, but are still cowards, so you'll have
to order them to attack if a Dragon gets after them
while they are chopping wood. You'll see a lot of
things upgraded that weren't before, like level 5
peasants, and level 9 Alleria etc.... These are a bit
too tough for single player use, so some sort of
cooperative effort will probably be necessary at first.
After your combined efforts take out the computer
opponent, hack away at each other till someone comes
out on top. I really want to know if they are balanced
for multiplayer use, and if anything gives any human
players an unfair advantage over others. If you like
these, I'll send you a kit for making a new campaign if
you'd like. The program is called Wardraft, and it
extracts and imports files to the Warcraft 2 archives.
If you're good with batch files, a DOS program called
peace does the same thing. I need a batch file that
will import 14 files automatically. The only other
alternative is to distribute the altered maindat.war
file as the new campaign. This is nearly a 10 meg file
and even if it wasn't a problem distributing a file
that big, Blizzard might have a problem with it. I
know you were probably beginning to think I was full of
crap about these puds, and I don't blame you. If you
are interested in the campaign project, lets work out
another way to get this stuff to each other. With the
introduction of Wardraft and Peace, Warcraft 2 campaigns
are bound to be as common as Doom episodes soon. I'd
like to be among the first to release one, and would be
happy to share the credit. I've got a beta version of
the new campaign working, but some of the levels are at
the moment nothing to write home about, so if you'd
like to contribute a level or two, or know someone who
would, let me know. I'd much rather be a small part of
an awesome project, than a big part of a mediocre one.
The maps on these multiplayer puds will be familiar to
you, and are also included in the campaign. Let me
know how the multiplayer tests go anyway, and thanx for
your patience. Cameron
